How We Help You Heal from Trauma

Healing from trauma isn’t about “just talking about it.” It’s about helping your mind and body process what’s been stuck so you can feel safe, grounded, and in control again.
At Transform & Renew Counseling, we use a range of evidence-based trauma therapies tailored to your needs:

Does This Sound Like You?

Trauma doesn’t always look obvious. It often shows up in how you feel, react, and move through daily life.

  • Constantly on edge
Feeling tense, hyper-aware, or unable to relax—even when things seem “fine”
  • Anxiety or panic
Sudden waves of anxiety, racing thoughts, or physical panic responses
  • Intrusive memories
Thoughts, images, or memories that come back unexpectedly and feel hard to control
  • Difficulty trusting others
Feeling guarded, disconnected, or unsure how to feel safe in relationships
  • Emotional numbness
Feeling shut down, disconnected, or like you’re just going through the motions
  • Lingering impact from past experiences
Noticing that something from your past still affects how you think, feel, or react today
If several of these resonate, trauma therapy can help you better understand what’s happening—and begin to shift it.

Trauma Therapy FAQs

What is trauma therapy? +
Trauma therapy helps your brain and body process overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as intense or present. It can help reduce anxiety, triggers, and emotional distress so you can feel more stable and in control.
How do I know if I need trauma therapy? +
If you feel on edge, anxious, emotionally numb, or impacted by past experiences, trauma therapy may help. You do not need a specific diagnosis—many people simply notice that something from the past is still affecting their present.
What is EMDR therapy and how does it work? +
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) helps your brain reprocess distressing memories so they no longer feel overwhelming. Many people experience relief from triggers, anxiety, and intrusive thoughts without having to talk through every detail.
What types of trauma therapy do you offer? +
We offer several evidence-based trauma therapies including EMDR, Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and TBRI-informed care. Your therapist will help determine what approach fits best for you.
Do I have to talk about everything that happened? +
No. Trauma therapy does not require you to share everything right away. We focus first on helping you feel safe and stable. You move at your own pace, and nothing is forced.
Is trauma therapy available online in Texas? +
Yes. We offer virtual trauma therapy across Texas, as well as in-person sessions in San Antonio. This allows you to access care from wherever you feel most comfortable.
How long does trauma therapy take? +
It depends on your goals, history, and the type of therapy used. Some approaches like ART or EMDR may lead to faster relief, while others focus on longer-term healing and support.
You don’t have to figure this out alone.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to start, that’s exactly what we’re here for. Reaching out is simply the first step toward clarity and support.
