Joshua’s Approach to Counseling
Therapy for when life, relationships, or your sense of self feel difficult to hold together.Sometimes the struggle is easy to name: anxiety that makes it hard to focus, depression that affects motivation, tension at home, or a relationship that feels increasingly disconnected. Other times, it is harder to put into words. You may feel unsure of your purpose, burdened by self-doubt, carrying grief, or noticing that old experiences continue to shape how you see yourself and relate to others. Josh Im, LPC Associate and LMFT Associate, provides counseling for teens age 13 and older, adults, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, trauma, grief, and relationship conflict. He helps clients slow down, understand the patterns affecting their daily lives, and identify the changes that feel most important to them. For couples and families, Joshua creates space to better understand the patterns that keep conflict going, make room for emotions that may be difficult to express, and reconnect around shared goals. For individual clients, counseling can offer an opportunity to strengthen confidence, work through painful experiences, and move toward a life that feels more aligned with their values and sense of purpose. His approach is person-centered, collaborative, and strengths-based. Drawing from Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy principles, Joshua tailors counseling to each client’s needs, goals, and readiness for change. Faith integration is also available when requested and is always guided by the client’s own beliefs and preferences. |
Stress, painful experiences, and relationship patterns can show up in many ways. You may know that something needs to change, even if you are not yet sure where to begin.
Worry, overthinking, pressure at school or work, trouble concentrating, or difficulty sleeping may be making everyday responsibilities feel harder than they should.
You may be caught in self-doubt, regret, comparison, or uncertainty about your purpose, identity, relationships, or what you want for your future.
Conversations may quickly become tense, important feelings may go unspoken, or you may feel disconnected from your partner, family, or the people closest to you.
Difficult experiences, grief, trauma, or past relationships may continue to influence your emotions, confidence, sense of safety, and ability to trust or connect.
Joshua offers a warm, collaborative approach for clients who want to feel heard, explore what is beneath the surface, and work toward goals that matter to them.
You may be questioning your worth, abilities, purpose, or direction and want to understand the beliefs and experiences that have shaped how you see yourself.
You want to better understand conflict, communication, emotional distance, trust, or the unspoken feelings affecting your relationship or family.
You are ready to explore what is contributing to the stress, worry, low motivation, loss, or emotional heaviness you have been carrying.
You value a counselor who listens carefully, respects your beliefs and experiences, and helps you shape goals that feel meaningful and achievable.
When you begin counseling with me, our first sessions are a chance for you to share what has been difficult, what you hope will change, and what support would feel most helpful. You do not need to have the right words, a complete history, or a clear plan before we begin.
I approach therapy with curiosity, care, and respect for your lived experience. I see you as the expert on your own life, values, and beliefs. My role is to listen carefully, offer perspective and practical support, and help you stay connected to the goals we create together.
Depending on your needs, our sessions may include making space for emotions and past experiences, noticing patterns in thoughts or relationships, building coping skills for everyday stress, or working toward shared goals as a couple or family. I tailor the pace and direction of counseling to what feels manageable and meaningful for you.
I want counseling to feel welcoming, collaborative, and free from judgment—a place where you can be honest, feel heard, and move forward with greater clarity.
I work with teens age 13 and older, adults, couples, and families. While every counseling process is individualized, these are some of the concerns I most often help clients explore.
I help clients understand the triggers, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors connected to anxiety while building coping skills that support daily life, sleep, school, work, and relationships.
Counseling can offer space to explore self-doubt, negative beliefs, regret, comparison, and uncertainty about purpose while building confidence and a stronger sense of self-worth.
I help couples and families identify the interactional patterns beneath conflict, make space for emotions that may be difficult to express, and work toward greater connection and shared understanding.
When motivation, interest, hope, or energy feel diminished, we can explore what is contributing to those feelings and develop support that is responsive to your current season of life.
I provide trauma-informed counseling that prioritizes trust, collaboration, and emotional safety as you process experiences that may still be shaping how you feel, relate, or see yourself.
Faith integration is available for clients who would like their spiritual beliefs to be thoughtfully included in counseling.
I became a counselor because I have seen how meaningful it can be to have someone you can trust and confide in without judgment. I believe therapy can be a place to explore, grow, and be authentic to who you are in a space that feels safe and respectful.
My hope is that you feel welcomed from our first meeting and that counseling becomes a space where you can speak openly about what you think, feel, and believe. I approach each client with warmth, curiosity, and the understanding that you are more than the problems or challenges you are facing.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy running and reading philosophy. I appreciate the ways both can create room for reflection, challenge, and perspective—whether you are working toward a personal goal, navigating a difficult season, or simply trying to better understand the life you want to build.
